My Foolish Heart, Book Review and Giveaway

Publisher's description:

Unknown to her tiny town of Deep Haven , Isadora Presley spends her nights as Miss Foolish Heart, the star host of a syndicated talk radio show. Millions tune in to hear her advice on dating and falling in love, unaware that she’s never really done either. Issy’s ratings soar when it seems she’s falling in love on-air with a caller. A caller she doesn’t realize lives right next door.

Caleb Knight served a tour of duty in Iraq and paid a steep price. The last thing he wants is pity, so he hides his disability and moves to Deep Haven to land his dream job as the high school football coach. When his beautiful neighbor catches his eye, in a moment of desperation he seeks advice from My Foolish Heart, the show that airs before his favorite sports broadcast.

Before he knows it, Caleb finds himself drawn to the host—and more confused than ever. Is his perfect love the woman on the radio . . . or the one next door?

My review of this book:

This was the first time I read a book written by this Author. A quick rundown on Susan May Warren's stats and I realized she is indeed very popular.
I will admit  that I know nothing about (American) football, I really do not like doughnuts and I like to find a bit more substance in my reading material.

This is a very lighthearted story, penned for the twenty something generation. Due to its thematic and albeit being a Christian novel, I did not find it however appropriate for young adults.
The resume caught my eye because of Caleb's character and there is no doubt in my mind Susan May Warren held this particular one close to her heart. In fact, I think this is Caleb's story and everything else seems to be a backdrop.
Caleb is the essence of the well trained footsoldier who gave everything for honour, loyalty and freedom and will do it again in a heartbeat!
She describes him as the quintessential All American Boy Scout who happens to be also your next door neighbour, lonely and just looking for the chance to be the new Highschool coach. Meeting someone who would love him despite his scars might just make him whole again.

Let me quickly say I applaud Susan May Warren for reminding us that many young men come back from their tour of duties with many challenges, both physical and mental.
I will admit I finished the book simply because I wanted to know if Deep Haven's school board would indeed give a chance to a Veteran.
I also (almost) wrote a different sceneario in my mind involving a new coach and his assistant.

Somehow however I had a hard time with the rest of her descriptions, including the talk show scenario, Issy the host, her best friend and ex boyfriend, etc... Each character could be labeled  nice but a tad fluffy or just a bit foolish...
In the end, Deep Haven was a bit dull in my mind!
P.S. I would have loved to find out what happened to Duncan/Roger.

I give My Foolish Heart a foolish 3 stars.
