Did you know?
The first country to grant women the right to vote in the modern era was New Zealand in 1893.
The first woman to rule a country as an elected leader in the modern era was Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka, who was elected as prime minister of the island nation in 1960 and later re-elected in 1970.
The world's first novel, The Tale of Genji, was published in Japan around A.D. 1000 by female author Murasaki Shikibu.

Today is for ALL women!
What splendid pictures. I really liked Google's doodle for International Womens Day too.
ReplyDeleteGoogle's doodle was indeed nice.
DeleteWith your eye for details Jenny, I am glad you like the photos. I wish I had a knack for taking such marvelous snapshots!
All the best,
Happy international women's day.
ReplyDeleteOne day we will rule the world we will let the men help if they behave themselves.

DeleteOh, I love this International Women's Day that you talk about, Noelle. And these pictures are so unique and wonderful, too. Women are special people, indeed, from mothers to daughters to wives to grandmothers. They should be celebrated. Many of them are the strength of their family.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend, and it won't be long until you get to wear your sandals.
Love,
~Sheri
It is a special day Sheri and I am so happy to be part of it!
DeleteI usually don't mind wearing wellies (after all I live on an island!) but I will be very happy to wear a cotton dress and those nifty sandals I purchased last week (being an optimist and such a dreamer!).
Happy weekend,
How wonderful! We are a powerful bunch of ladies on our blogs....filled with strength and compassion, too! I hope you've had a special day my friend! I'm glad we are friends! Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteSo glad we could share this special time Friend!

ReplyDeleteHappy International Women's Day, Noelle!
withLove.
I like that! Hear, hear!!
DeleteA peaceful Sunday to you and yours,
It's funny how apathetic some twenty somethings can be about voting...it's certainly a right that was earned by blood, not just time and convincing.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe that only a few generations ago women were willing to die in order to get the vote. And now...many people just can't be bothered.
Jen
A good point Jen. Have we made it too easy for our children perhaps?
DeleteBehind every man there's a woman telling him he's not that good really!
ReplyDeleteOnly joking ... please put away the rolling pin !!!
God bless.
I love it! I have it on good authority the (cast iron) frying pan is better anyway Victor!
DeleteGod bless,
Happy Belated Women's Day, Noelle! After all, everyday is a day to celebrate being a woman, is it not? Thanks for all the interesting info and lovely images!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!
