The Rewards Of Reading...

To acquire the habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all the miseries of life.

(W. Somerset Maugham)

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket.

(Chinese Proverb)

Happy 101th Birthday Granny! You are always on my mind!

Note to Readers:

For those of you who might wonder, the lovely young woman's name in the banner was Madeleine born on 13 November, 1902.

A daughter of the sea as she liked to call herself (born and raised on the North Sea coast), she shared her endless passion for nature and animals with anyone she met.

Despite a 3rd grader education she was multi lingual. Her continuous thirst for knowledge was often challenged (She survived both WW1 and WW2, losing her home during each one) yet she continued to improve herself through reading!
She traveled the world until she passed away at age 93, all the while keeping journals to remember all that she saw.
Books were her refuge and her dream, to be a play-writer!

Always remembered, never forgotten!

  1. How beautiful, Noelle.
Visiting you is a precious journey. Always a gift.
I traveled by ship from Belgium to England in 1969 saw the White Cliffs of Dover. I spent a day with our 12 year old daughter in the Imperial War Museum in London back in 1996. She gave a school report on the children of the blitz. Your stories and words comfort me.
    Thank you.

  2. Noelle, these book quotes are so special. I will pass them on to Nel, as she is a book lover. Guess what? I read Audrey Bunny, and it was such a cute book that made me smile big. I'm going to let Jess read it, and I'm sure her students will enjoy it too. Thank you, again, for sharing this book with me, and I'm so glad I won it in the giveaway.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  4. 101 that's amazing, I've known a few people to go well into their 90's but know no one to go past 100.
    Happy birthday to her.
