Synopsis:
THEY MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO CONVICT HIM, BUT THEY HAVE ENOUGH TO RUIN HIS LIFE.
Dr. Matt Newman thought he was leaving his life as a surgeon in private practice for a better one in academic medicine. But the kidnappers who attacked him as he left the hospital at 2 a.m. have no such plans—they just want him dead. Bound and in the trunk of his car, Matt’s only thought is fleeing with his life. He does escape, but at a price: a head injury that lands him in the ICU . . . where he awakens to discover he’s being charged with murder.
Sandra Murray is a fiery, redheaded lawyer who swore she was done with doctors after her last relationship. But when Matt calls, she knows she can’t walk away from defending someone who is truly innocent.
Matt’s career is going down the drain. His freedom and perhaps his life may be next. But with the police convinced he’s a killer and the kidnappers still trying to finish what they started, finding the truth—and the faith to keep going—will be the toughest stress test Matt has ever endured.
My thoughts:
In 'Stress Test' Richard L.Mabry is giving readers an intriguing thriller involving the medical world made all the most plausible because of his own experience as a physician and it is Christian writing to boot! Using layman language and resisting drowning his audience with typical medical jargon known only to professionals, his novel is a pleasurable read!
Let me start by saying this 'whodunit' is fast paced and the author will keep you guessing till the end!
On one hand we have Dr. Matt Newman who is leaving his practice for a staff membership at the Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. On his way to meet his girlfriend that same evening, Dr. Newman is kidnapped, bound, gagged and hidden in the trunk of his car.
His kidnappers in pursuit, he makes a daring escape, unknowingly leaving his wallet and phone behind, and falls head first on the pavement, knocking himself unconscious.
Found by a passerby and recovering at a nearby hospital, he is accused of a murder: a woman's body has been found in his car trunk, his identifications nearby.
As staggering evidences piles up against him, Matt calls upon Sandra Murray's legal expertise, a defense attorney with her own personal misgivings but who might very well be the only one who believes in his innocence.
The plot thickens as it is soon apparent Matt's life is at stake, God and Sandra the only ones he can trust!
As with any well executed story (and this one is excellent!), there is only so much you wish to reveal for fear to spoil it fore readers! Dr. Mabry instills the right dramatic touch to his plot line to make you wonder who has it in for the physician. Meanwhile as they work together to find the true killer's identity, Matt and Sandra places their faith in God's design for them.
You'll find yourself turning page after page to discover the extent of this writer's skills in no time!
