SYNOPSIS:

Her courage and her heart will be tested in ways she never expected. . .
Beth Thatcher has spent her entire life in the safe, comfortable world of her family, her friends, and the social outings her father's wealth provides. But Beth is about to leave it all behind to accept a teaching position in the rugged foothills of western Canada. Inspired by her aunt Elizabeth, who went west to teach school several years ago, and gently encouraged by her father, Beth resolves to put her trust in God and bravely face any challenge that comes her way.

But the conditions in Coal Valley are even worse than she'd feared. A recent mining accident has left the town grieving and at the mercy of the mining company. The children have had very little prior education, and many of the locals don't even speak English. There isn't even a proper schoolhouse. In addition, Beth's heart is torn between two young men--both Mounties, one a lifelong friend and the other a kind, quiet man who comes to her aid more than once.

Despite the many challenges, Beth is determined to make a difference in the rustic frontier town. But when her sister visits from the East, reminding her of all the luxuries she's had to give up, will Beth decide to return to her privileged life as soon as the school year is over?

My thoughts:

Janette Oke's series including 'Love Comes Softly' have captivated the imagination of many and like the Laura Ingalls Wilder 'Little House On The Prairie' are clearly destined to become classics!

Few authors have managed to reach such a wide spectrum of readers worldwide! Young and old alike frequently immerse themselves in her novels for a chance to enjoy heart warming adventures set against solid historical settings. If you buy one novel, you are sure to collect all volumes of the series!

Known for a solid faith reflected in her writings Janette Oke's appeal is often linked to a gentler life, where family unity, duty and loyalty still means something.

Where Courage Calls is a special companion story to the Hallmark Channel 'When Calls The Heart' TV series (Pilot movie reviewed HERE).
Together with daughter Laurel Oke Logan, Janette Oke gives us yet a new adventure, this time set in the foothills of Western Canada.

Placing her trust in God, Beth Thatcher leaves the comfortable world of her father's wealth to accept a teaching position in a coal mining town. Once there however, Beth is faced with many obstacles and must either muster her courage or turn back and admit she is not cut out to live in the West.

Proving themselves to be an excellent writing team Janette and daughter Laurel gives us yet another opportunity to see courageous people willing to make a difference whilst walking in God's intended path.
There is certain to be a little something for everyone in this latest novel, be it adventure, mystery, a hint of romance or just plain entertainment!

5 Stars!

  1. I have enjoyed most if not all of Janette Oke's books. I read When Calls the Heart when it was first written, several years ago and we are enjoying the television series on Hallmark.
