Purposeful Design: Understanding the Creation by Jay Schabacker, Book review

  • Hardcover: 96 pages
  • ISBN-13: 978-0989619004

SYNOPSIS:

"Purposeful Design: Understanding the Creation" is the 2013 Illuminations Book Awards Bronze Medalist in the Education (Home School, Bible School, etc.) category!

Purposeful Design beautifully reveals the principles of science that operate our world. It masterfully explains the elements of designs that make life possible, and compellingly presents evidence that a loving Creator God was purposeful in these designs. The author, Mr. Schabacker, a former aerospace scientist and businessman, seems to know the art of storytelling. The book delights the senses with beautifully depictive pictures, and easy to understand explanations of complex science concepts.

Within the framework of the seven days of creation, Mr. Schabacker, details the earth's orbit, speed and rotation. He explains the rain cycle, the importance of vegetation, the seasons, the phases of the moon, and the gravitational pull on the ocean tides. He explains celestial navigation and the innate instincts of bird migration patterns. Bible verses are interwoven throughout the book reminding us of God's hand in creation.

Purposeful Design was so purposefully designed that it is appealing to all ages. The illustrations are part of the explanation making the concepts easier to understand. Everyone will learn something from this book. We so often go through life without truly understanding the details of our creation that continuously point us to a purposeful design. Thank you, Mr. Schabacker, for helping to give the next generation a solid foundation. This is perfect "Coffee Table" material because everyone should just stop and ponder.

My thoughts:

Beginning with a 'not to miss' dedication and preface, PURPOSEFUL DESIGN: UNDERSTANDING THE CREATION reveals Schabacker's beliefs on why this wonderful planet we call Earth did not just happened to evolve but was in fact created by the Almighty.
Now bear with me Folks: we all have our opinions and thus, we will agree to disagree depending on what we believe.
But God made the earth by His power, He founded the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by His understandings.
(Jeremiah 10:12)

The culmination of countless hours of questioning and probing into this God created world, Purposeful Design was designed as a 'coffee table' book to provide a valuable teaching tool for homeschoolers and parents of school kids everywhere.
Beautifully formatted it provides clear, easy to understand references as well as stunning illustrations of our planet. It is to my mind, the best I have seen to date and not just for children either.

Taking us through Creation, Jay Schabacker assigned each chapter of his book to exemplify one day of God's work, beginning with the first, Creation of the Heavens and Earth and ending with the 7th, His day of rest.
For my part, chapter 5 held perhaps the most fascination with the birds and the fishes , their creation, instinct and behaviour bringing to light even God's sense of humour!

As a retired engineer, Schabacker shows his understanding of God's masterful design of this Universe. Imagine for a moment 'What if?' What if the moon was much larger or a distance closer to the earth? Humans on earth would be doomed because the two great gravitational force of the moon would make the tides huge - and devastating! And if the moon was much smaller or a distance farther, the ocean's tides would be insignificant and of no benefit at all to mankind!
There are still so much to understand about this world of ours! Imagine: 17 million bits of information in one human cell...

With its ample Scripture references and material to make you stop and ponder, Purposeful Design is well worth checking out no matter what you believe!

5 Stars!
