Synopsis:
Centered
on one of Suzanne Woods Fisher's most loved characters, this is the
story fans have eagerly anticipated. The precocious M.K. is all grown up
(well, almost) and ready to take on the world-with surprising results.
Fisher's trademark plot twists and turns are as unexpected and
satisfying as ever in this third book in the Stoney Ridge Seasons
series.
In her wildest dreams, spunky and impulsive nineteen-year-old Mary Kate Lapp never imagined herself behind a schoolteacher's desk. A run-in (literally) with the schoolteacher compels her to act as a substitute teacher, just as her restless desire to see the world compels her to apply for a passport . . . just in case.
The only thing of
interest to M.K. in the sleepy Amish community of Stoney Ridge is the
unexplained death of a sheep farmer that coincided with the arrival of a
mysterious young man into the community. Frustrated that no one takes
the crime seriously, she takes matters into her own hands.
Unfortunately, as tends to be the case for M.K., she jumps headlong into
trouble.
My thoughts:
M. K. Lapp is one of these vivid characters you find yourself hoping the author will continue to write about. She won readers' hearts in the first two books of Stoney Ridge Seasons with her mischievous ways, a delightful Amish sort of 'Anne of Green Gables', that's with an 'E' at the end of course!
As a child you never knew what M. K. would come up with as she often act before she thought! I always felt Suzanne Woods Fisher found the perfect way to balance the lively ways of M. K. with her step Mum's Fern no nonsense approach to life, again not unlike Colleen Hurst I imagine!
It was not surprising to discover Mary Kay Lapp, M. K. as we know her, is a favourite of Suzanne's readers. To find her grown up and yearning for adventure seemed to be just right on track and I am so glad Suzanne satisfied our curiosity! M. K. brought us such merriment with her impish ways!
Imagine an Amish filing for a passport...Suzanne Woods Fisher has just the knack to surprise everyone! And this Amish now a bonafida bee keeper, loves to ride her little red scooter...literally running into people...first the school marm then in the mysterious Chris Yoder...When a local sheep farmer is found dead in a nearby field, M. K.'s imagination works by leaps and bounds.
God works in mysterious ways it is said...Never more so than in M. K.'s life as we see in 'The Lesson'.
Suzanne Woods Fisher weaves a sweet story around the Lapp family and brings closure to some of the events we have uncovered in her other books in the series as well. I always find intriguing the entrenchment of English life into the Amish community and this author does it well.
And speaking of lessons, there is always something for us to learn, even the spirited new school marm...as you will see!
Will M. K. find peace in her new direction and a touch of romance perhaps? Find out for yourself!
5 stars for pure entertainment and looking forward to see what an older M. K. might bring us in the future!

Hi Noelle! Thanks so much for being a part of the blog tour. I want to make sure my editor sees your review--loved your comparison of M.K. to Anne of Green Gables. I hadn't thought of that...but you're right! So glad you were part of the blog tour, Noelle. Thanks for sharing my books with your readers. Warmly, Suzanne
