Did you know?

The first country to grant women the right to vote in the modern era was New Zealand in 1893.

The first woman to rule a country as an elected leader in the modern era was Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka, who was elected as prime minister of the island nation in 1960 and later re-elected in 1970.

The world's first novel, The Tale of Genji, was published in Japan around A.D. 1000 by female author Murasaki Shikibu.

  4. Oh, I love this International Women's Day that you talk about, Noelle. And these pictures are so unique and wonderful, too. Women are special people, indeed, from mothers to daughters to wives to grandmothers. They should be celebrated. Many of them are the strength of their family.

Have a happy weekend, and it won't be long until you get to wear your sandals.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

    1. It is a special day Sheri and I am so happy to be part of it!
I usually don't mind wearing wellies (after all I live on an island!) but I will be very happy to wear a cotton dress and those nifty sandals I purchased last week (being an optimist and such a dreamer!).
      Happy weekend,

  7. It's funny how apathetic some twenty somethings can be about voting...it's certainly a right that was earned by blood, not just time and convincing.

It's hard to believe that only a few generations ago women were willing to die in order to get the vote. And now...many people just can't be bothered.
